A magician removes a deck of cards from his pocket, along with a single playing card. The single card is placed face-down on the table as the prediction. A spectator selects a card (the six of hearts from the deck). Unable to see what card was chosen, the magician reveals that the card was a BLACK card. It is obvious that the performer was wrong with his first prediction. Looking surprised and bewildered, the magician tells the spectator to return the card face-down on the deck, which is held by the performer. "You see this deck is getting a little bit worn and does not cooperate sometimes. You were supposed to have selected a BLACK card! I think I have the solution to this problem." The performer reaches into his pocket, and removes a large hypodermic needle. The needle is plunged into the top of the deck, which has the selected card on top. Slowly, the needle fills with RED INK. The performer explains once again, that the volunteer should have selected a BLACK card and this will get rid of the red ink! Now the top card is turned over. To the surprise of everyone, the hearts on the card are hollow, except for a very small portion! "No no, I don’t want the ink just to be removed, I want a totally different suite, the six of clubs or spades - a BLACK card!" The card is placed face-down on the deck once again, and the spectator is asked to wave their hand over the card. The top card is turned over, but the card is now a BLACK six of hearts! Looking astonished, the performer tells the spectator to turn over the prediction card that has been on the table throughout the performance. Amazingly, the prediction card is a BLACK SIX OF HEARTS!

At long last the difficult task of reprinting the entire Spellbinder Magazine has been completed. In the three volumes there are over 700 pages of close up magazine edited by Stephen Tucker. Over 50 contributors provided effects and there are a total of 354 effects within the three volumes.

The Spellbinder magazine has been scanned from the original issues most of which are now unobtainable. Many of the pages were tidied up where text was difficult to read and the three volumes have been digitally printed on good quality paper by one of the leading digital printers in the country.

Four spectators are asked to select a card. You then take out a sheet of newspaper and a pair of scissors. You make one cut and opening the paper the image of the first card is revealed on the sheet of paper. Refolding the paper, another single cut is made, and the unfolded paper now matches the second selection. Repeat this a third time, and the next card is revealed. Finally you make a last cut, and then holding up the paper the final card appears with a twist.

Also included is the thrown out deck, you wrap the deck in a rubber band. Throw it out into the audience and four spectators peek at a card one at a time throwing the deck from person to person. You ask them to stand and think of the card, you will name the cards, and if their card is named you want them to sit down. Of course you name all four cards and they all sit down!

Card College is a modern classic. It is without a doubt the most important work on sleight of hand with cards. This is the first volume in a series of five. The speciality of this electronic book are its 89 video clips, which show how Giobbi executes each and every technique described.

Please note that there are significant differences between the latest printed edition of "Card College 1" and this ebook, beside the video clips. This ebook was based on the German edition "Grosse Kartenschule 1" which has a somewhat different selection of chapters than the English one from Hermetic Press. One could say it is the author's cut: Chapter 9 'The Glimpse' in this ebook appears in volume 2 of the Hermetic Press series. On the other hand chapters 13, 14, 15 and 16 from the Hermetic Press book are missing in this ebook. They will be available in the electronic Card College 2.

The performer tears a few pages from a current copy of Time, Business Week, or Newsweek magazine, giving the pages to people in the audience. They pass them on to others, ensuring a random selection of helpers. The Mentalist, with two of the helpers, illustrates how our eyes are attracted by the clever placement of text or graphics in almost all magazine editorials and ads. One participant's page is torn into more than a dozen pieces to guarantee a random outcome by eliminating any bias resulting from the page layout. Obviously, every scrap has totally different printed content on both sides. While the mindreader's back is turned , the participant freely discards all but one piece which he holds between his forefinger and thumb for everyone (except the Mentalist) to see. After verbally ensuring that the helper can read numerous words and phrases on the scrap of paper, and while the performer's back remains turned toward the participant, he says, "I am visualizing part of a word but it's somewhat obscured by your thumb. Move your thumb over, please. That's better. Would you please read for the first time that which Business Week printed on the piece of magazine page you chose. I believe the word " soared " was under your thumb. Is that correct?" He exclaims, " YES !"

The Original Manuscript, from the Christopher Collection - In 1924, Houdini's prized effort, A Magician Among The Spirits, was published. Much to his dismay, the editors at Harper & Brothers rearranged, rewrote and above all cut out huge portions of the text. The original typed manuscript for A Magician Among The Spirits survives in Milbourne Christopher's collection, unread except by a few people, for nearly half a century. Now Richard Kaufman and Maurine Christopher have published the original typed manuscript in facsimile, with handwritten corrections by Houdini and Oscar Teale. The edition is limited to 1000 copies. This 400 page oversized book is adorned with the same sepia-toned rare photograph of Houdini that accompanies the manuscript. Covered in black cloth and housed in a matching slipcase. The magician openly displays a one dollar bill with a small "trap door" cut into the middle. He asks a spectator to hold the trap door and proceeds to somehow fold the bill closed, then open it up again. When the bill is unfolded the trap door seems to have jumped to the other side of the bill!

The only way the effect seems possible is if the magician somehow went through the small cutout door in the bill.
